Acne cures would be unnecessary if you could stop pimples before they even formed. Prevention is the best cure and there are effective ways of preventing acne from breaking out. Here are ten simple and free ways for you to protect yourself against acne:
# 1. You must have a healthy diet that is nutritionally balanced. Your diet should be low in fat and salt and moderate in sugar. Aim to eat at least five portions of different fruits and vegetables each day including at least one green vegetable. Chose wholegrain foods and have a portion of oily fish a week. Vegetable oils are known to inflame acne, so try to avoid these.
# 2. Drink plenty of water. Try to drink two liters of water a day in place of your regular cola or soda. Drinking adequate amounts of water keeps your body properly hydrated, which will improve the appearance of your skin. It also helps your body to flush out the toxins that cause your acne.
# 3. Take regular amounts of moderate exercise. It will improve your blood circulation and increase your oxygen intake. You will also burn some extra calories. Exercise will also help to keep your hormonal balance in equilibrium.
# 4. Get out into the sunshine every day. This has two main benefits. Firstly, your body makes vitamin D from sunlight; and secondly, sun light helps to clear up your spots. It will also make you feel better.
# 5. Take a few minutes each day to relax. Try some deep breathing exercises to oxygenate your body and to calm your mind. This will help reduce your stress levels. Stress can cause an outbreak of acne.
# 6. Avoid excessive smoking and drinking. Better still; give them up for your health’s sake. Alcohol can dehydrate your body that is one of the reasons why you get a hangover when you drink too much. Apart from a hangover, the other most obvious place where you will see the effects of dehydration is in your skin. Smoking can also cause dehydration.
# 8. Wash your face twice a day with a mild facial cleaner that is suitable to your skin type. Preferably, wash your face in the morning and before going to bed. Ladies, take off your make up before going to bed.
# 9. Get enough sleep. Try to get six to eight hours of quality sleep each night. That will give your body time to heal itself and leave you feeling refreshed afterward. Insufficient sleep can increase your stress level, and that can cause an outbreak of acne.
# 10. No matter how great the temptation might be, do not pick your spots. This will only spread the infection and make them last much longer.
